Andy Jacobs

Andy Jacobs is a multidisciplinary artist who works with the mediums of fibers/textiles, performance, drawing, and installation. Her work contemplates biodegradability, ephemerality, interconnection, and cyclicality. By creating objects with techniques that require a slowness, she is committed to exploring, expanding, and deepening time. This slowness is a push against the capitalist agenda of hyper production. Welcoming material into her studio through a self-developed ‘code of consumption’, she strives to only use materials that are found, foraged, or second hand, critiquing society's patterns of material use. Andy’s work straddles the lines of slow and urgent, personal and political, spiritual and scientific. Drawing inspiration from ecology, ritual, compost, and plant life, her work is grappling with how to cope with climate change in the current anthropocene.

Born and based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, she has lived on both coasts, earning her BFA in Fine Arts from Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, and her MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at Maine College of Art and Design, in Portland, Maine.
